Feedback
Seed Finder is a brand-new app, and feedback in the comments below is very welcome. I’d especially like to
hear about:
- conditions you’re missing to describe your ideal seed
- conditions that are too slow or rarely finish in time
- ideas for new presets
- technical issues not covered below
Troubleshooting
If none of the below helps, please report in the comments and include your edition and version, your conditions, and an
example seed if you have one.
Common user errors
If a found seed doesn’t match your in-game world, it’s most likely due to one of the following:
- you created the world with a different edition or version than the one selected for the search
- you mistyped the seed, or copied it with extra characters or spaces (use the copy buttons to be safe)
- you used add-ons, mods or behavior/data packs that change world generation
No matching seeds
If a search finishes without results, your conditions may be too strict, or even impossible. Some biomes and features
don’t exist in every version, and some combinations are extremely rare or can’t generate at all. Try fewer conditions
and broader biome and feature selections, and make sure each condition is in the right dimension tab. Adjusting the
search area can help too, depending on the condition. Also note that every search stops on its own after a while. You
can always click Search more to keep going.
Known limitations
Estimated spawn positions
Searches anchored to the spawn use the same estimated world spawn position as the Seed Map, which isn’t always accurate.
The actual in-game spawn point can deviate from it, so locations may end up slightly closer to or farther from your
spawn than expected.
Feature accuracy
Features are calculated the same way as on the Seed Map, so the same caveats apply: some locations can be wrong or
missing, and some structures can occasionally fail to generate in-game.
Sampled conditions
Conditions that scan an area, recognizable by their “checked every …” setting, sample the world on a grid instead of
checking every single block. 4m is the most accurate. Larger grids are much faster, but can miss small biome patches,
misjudge island sizes, or slightly change measured heights. If a result looks wrong, try a smaller grid.
Slow features
Not all features are equally fast to check. Some, like dungeons and strongholds on Java Edition, are much more
expensive than others and can lower the scan rate noticeably. If a search feels slow, keep the search area for such
features small, or leave them out and check promising seeds in the Seed Map instead.
Versions in development
Versions marked as still in development are based on experimental snapshots. Features may be missing, and results may
be wrong or change with the next game update.
Technical Issues
If the app is stuck or broken and won’t recover on its own, you can download a diagnostics report and send it to
. You can also try resetting the app’s data.
Requirements
Seed
Unlike most apps on this site, Seed Finder doesn’t require a seed. Instead, it checks large numbers of
candidate seeds against your conditions and collects the ones that match, so you can pick a favorite for your next
world.
Hardware
Searching seeds is computationally expensive: for every candidate seed, the app has to generate the relevant parts of
the world and check them against your conditions. It works on phones and tablets, but a device with a fast multi-core
CPU will get through many more seeds in the same time. You can adjust the number of threads used for searching in the
Settings dialog. More threads are faster, but increase system load and battery usage.
Browser
This app uses some relatively new web technologies. As a result, some features may be disabled for older browsers.
I recommend using the latest version of a major browser such as Chrome, Firefox, Edge or Safari.
Usage
Setup
First, select the edition and Minecraft version you plan to create your world with. If you don’t want to start from scratch, pick one of the Presets, ready-made searches like an island start with a
village nearby, several villages near spawn, a speedrun-friendly start, or a large mushroom island at the origin. You
can freely adjust everything afterwards. The preset selection switches back to “Custom” as soon as your conditions
differ from it.
Next, choose the Target, the point all conditions are measured from: the world spawn, the origin (0, 0), or custom
coordinates.
Conditions
Conditions are grouped into two tabs, Overworld and The Nether, and a seed only matches if all conditions in both
dimensions are fulfilled. On the Nether tab, the target is converted with the usual 1:8 ratio (a custom target at
x: 800, z: 0 sits at x: 100, z: 0 in the nether), and all distances are measured in nether blocks from there.
Target conditions apply to the target point itself: require a
specific biome, an island of a certain size (Overworld only), or a terrain height range (on supported versions).
Nearby conditions apply to the area around the target. Each condition
starts with a “Within …m” tag. Click it to set the distance (up to 2048 blocks) and the shape of the search area
(square or circle). You can require:
- specific biomes (all of, any of, only, or none of a selection, optionally at a specific scan height)
- a minimum number of distinct biomes
- features like structures, with a minimum count and an optional biome restriction
- feature clusters, i.e., several features within a small radius of each other
- a median terrain height range or a minimum flatness (on supported versions)
Most area-based conditions also have a “checked every …” setting that trades accuracy for speed. See the
troubleshooting section above for details.
Searching
Press Search to start. While the search is running, the results panel shows how many seeds were found, the scan rate,
and the progress toward the time limit. You can stop the search at any time.
A search also stops on its own once it hits its result limit or its time limit. You can then click Search more to continue
the same search where it left off: it resets the timer and raises the result limit, while keeping all results
and favorites.
If you edit your conditions or the version after a search was started, a “Changed” badge appears: the next start
begins a new search, and the small undo button next to the badge restores the settings of the previous search. Clear
resets all conditions to start over.
Results
Found seeds appear in the results list immediately. Use the arrows on the preview map to step through them. Each seed
is rendered on the map, with the matched features highlighted around the target marker. By default, only the features
your conditions asked for are shown. You can enable Show all features and change dimension, biome height and other
view options via the sliders button at the top right of the map. The Expand option there stretches the map across
the browser window.
Above the map, you can copy the selected seed by clicking on it, mark it as a favorite using the star, or open it
directly in the Seed Map. The Seed Map opens in a new tab, centered on your search target and set to the version the
search ran with, so you can explore the world before committing to it.
Below the map, the All results and Favorites lists give you an overview of everything found so far, and the copy
button copies the shown list to your clipboard, one seed per line. Favorites belong to the current search: Search
more keeps them, while starting a new search clears them (after a confirmation).
Your conditions and your latest search, including its results, are stored locally on your device and restored when you
return to the app.
Keyboard Shortcuts
- N and P keys: next/previous seed
- C key: copy the selected seed
- S key: favorite/unfavorite the selected seed
- Space or K key: stop the search
- T key: expand/collapse the preview map
- Escape key: exit the expanded map
Shortcuts are ignored while you’re typing in an input field. You may have to click the map first for shortcuts to work.
